Frequently Asked Questions

Answers to the most common questions about our credit restoration process, enrollment, pricing, and what to expect.

How does the process work?

Getting started is simple. After you enroll, we review your three-bureau credit reports, identify potentially inaccurate, incomplete, or unverifiable information, and develop a personalized strategy based on your unique credit profile.
Throughout the process, we also provide rebuilding recommendations designed to strengthen your overall credit profile. Credit restoration works best when legitimate dispute opportunities are combined with positive financial habits and responsible credit management

Who is a good candidate for credit restoration?

The best candidates for credit restoration are those who understand that improving a credit profile is a process – not a shortcut.

Our ideal clients are committed to improving their financial future by remaining current on their existing obligations, reducing debt when possible, following rebuilding recommendations, and allowing enough time for the process to work.

Credit restoration is also best suited for individuals who are financially prepared to commit to the process. Because rebuilding credit requires consistency, clients should be in a position to remain current on their bills, continue making positive financial decisions, and keep up with the monthly service while we perform ongoing work on their behalf.

If someone is struggling to stay current on existing obligations or is unable to consistently afford the monthly service, it may be better to first focus on stabilizing their finances before beginning credit restoration. Our goal is to address the past – not fight against new financial challenges that continue to arise during the process.

If you are looking for overnight results, guaranteed deletions, or a company that promises to fix your credit in a matter of months regardless of your situation, Sound Credit Solutions may not be the right fit. Unfortunately, unrealistic expectations and misleading marketing are a large reason the credit restoration industry has developed a poor reputation.

Consumers always have choices. You may dispute information yourself if you are willing to learn the applicable consumer protection laws and invest the necessary time and effort, or you may hire a professional to assist you. Credit restoration is an elective service, much like hiring a tax professional, financial advisor, attorney, or contractor. Many things can be done yourself, but many people choose to hire a professional to save time, stay organized, and receive experienced guidance throughout the process.

Our goal is to partner with clients who are committed to long-term financial success – not simply temporary score increases.

Can I repair my credit myself?

Yes. Consumers have the legal right to dispute information on their own credit reports. If you are willing to learn the applicable consumer protection laws, understand the dispute process, and invest the necessary time and patience, you can absolutely choose to handle the process yourself.

Credit restoration is an elective service. Many things can be done yourself, but many people choose to hire a professional to save time, stay organized, and receive experienced guidance throughout the process.

At Sound Credit Solutions, we never tell consumers they must hire us. Instead, we focus on handling the backend work involved in the restoration process so our clients can focus on the things only they can control – making payments on time, reducing credit card balances, avoiding new debt, and building positive credit habits

Whether you choose to do it yourself or hire a professional, patience, consistency, and realistic expectations are essential for long-term success.

How long does credit restoration take?

Every credit report is unique, so there is no way to accurately predict when results will occur or how long the overall process will take.

Some clients may begin seeing positive changes within the first few months, while many others may not experience meaningful results until much later in the process. Both situations are completely normal.

The overall process may take just a few months for some clients, while others may require a year or longer, depending on the complexity of the credit report, the information being disputed, responses received from creditors and credit reporting agencies, and each client’s overall financial situation.

The pace of progress can also be influenced by a client’s ability to later pay or settle certain accounts when appropriate. Credit restoration is often a combination of identifying legitimate dispute opportunities, rebuilding positive credit history, and making sound financial decisions throughout the process.

It is important to understand that the goal is not simply to remove every negative account. The objective is to improve your overall credit profile by combining legitimate credit restoration with responsible rebuilding strategies and healthy credit habits.

Success also looks different for every client. Some clients achieve their financial goals long before every negative item is resolved. Once they qualify for a mortgage, auto loan, or reach the credit scores they were working toward, they may decide they have accomplished what they set out to do – and that is perfectly okay.

Results are rarely linear. Some clients experience early improvements followed by slower progress, while others see very little activity at first and receive significant results months later. We have had many clients receive some of their most meaningful results later in the restoration process. There is simply no reliable way to predict when results will occur.

Clients also play an important role in their success. New late payments, new collections, increasing credit card balances, or high credit utilization during the program can negatively impact scores, offset progress already made, and extend the overall timeline.

Why is it important to have realistic expectations?

One of the biggest factors in a successful credit restoration experience is beginning the process with realistic expectations.

Credit restoration is not an overnight solution. Clients who understand this from the beginning are more likely to trust the process and avoid becoming discouraged if results do not happen immediately.

Consumers generally have three options:

  • Allow negative information to remain on their credit reports until it naturally ages off.
  • Dispute information themselves if they have the time, knowledge, and patience.
  • Hire a professional credit restoration company to assist them.

Credit restoration should be viewed as an investment of both time and money, much like investing for retirement, education, or your overall financial future. Just as you would not expect an IRA or other longterm investment to produce significant returns overnight, improving a credit profile typically requires patience, consistency, and commitment.

Our goal is not simply to improve a credit score – it is to help build a stronger overall credit profile and financial foundation that benefits clients long after the restoration process is complete.

Can you remove accurate negative accounts?

No. Under federal law, no credit repair company can legally remove accurate, timely, and fully verified negative information from your credit report. However, consumer protection laws mandate that every piece of data on your report must be 100% accurate, complete, and legally verifiable. In reality, credit data is frequently plagued by reporting errors, mismatched balances, and incomplete documentation. Our service performs a deep compliance audit to identify these system flaws. If an item on your report is found to be inaccurate, incomplete, or entirely unverifiable by the reporting bureau, we work to ensure those specific reporting errors are legally corrected or removed in strict accordance with the law.

Do you guarantee results?

No. Under the Credit Repair Organizations Act (CROA), credit repair companies cannot legally guarantee specific results or promise that particular items will be removed within a certain timeframe.

Every credit report is unique, and results and timelines vary based on each client’s credit history, the information being reviewed, and the responses received from creditors and credit reporting agencies.

Our commitment is to provide ethical, compliant, and consistent credit restoration services while helping clients build stronger financial habits for long-term success.

What about companies that promise results, fix credit in 3-6 months, offer money-back guarantees, or score warranties?

Consumers should be cautious of advertising that creates unrealistic expectations.

Under the Credit Repair Organizations Act (CROA), credit repair companies cannot legally guarantee specific results or promise that particular items will be removed within a certain timeframe. Every credit report is different, and no company can accurately predict how creditors or credit reporting agencies will respond to disputes.

Unfortunately, the credit restoration industry has its share of companies that rely on unrealistic promises, aggressive marketing, or questionable practices to attract customers. This is one reason the industry has developed a poor reputation.

At Sound Credit Solutions:

  • We do not use illegal credit sweeps, false identity theft claims, or other deceptive tactics.
  • We focus on identifying information that may be inaccurate, incomplete, or unverifiable under applicable consumer protection laws.
  • We believe in educating our clients, setting realistic expectations, and helping build long-term financial habits – not selling false hope.

Before choosing a credit restoration company, we encourage consumers to:

  • Read verified Google, Facebook, and third-party reviews.
  • Watch real video testimonials from actual clients.
  • Ask questions about the company’s process, pricing, and compliance.
  • Be cautious of anyone promising guaranteed deletions, specific score increases, or fixed timelines.

Trust should be earned through transparency, education, and proven client experiences – not promises no company can legally make.

Should I pay collections before enrolling?

Not always. In many situations, paying a collection before reviewing your credit reports may eliminate potential dispute opportunities. We generally recommend allowing us to review your reports first before deciding whether payment or settlement is the best option.

There may be times later in the process where paying or settling certain accounts makes sense as part of a broader strategy. The best approach depends on the account, the reporting, the client’s goals, and the overall credit profile.

What should I do while I am in the program?

Your participation plays an important role in achieving the best possible outcome.

We recommend that you:

  • Continue making all current payments on time.
  • Keep credit card balances and utilization as low as possible.
  • Avoid new late payments and collection accounts.
  • Avoid applying for new credit unless we specifically recommend it as part of your rebuilding strategy.
  • Follow the rebuilding recommendations we provide.

Before applying for new credit, financing, refinancing, or making significant credit-related decisions, we encourage you to consult with us first. In many cases, waiting or choosing a different strategy can help prevent unnecessary inquiries, new debt, or other actions that could delay your progress.

Credit restoration works best as a partnership. While we focus on identifying legitimate opportunities to improve your credit profile, you control the financial decisions that influence your future success.

How much does your service cost?

Our monthly service fee is:

  • $135 per month for individuals.
  • $205 per month for couples who reside together and/or have joint credit accounts.

There are no Sound Credit Solutions service fees due at enrollment. Your first monthly service fee is not charged until your initial round of work has been completed.

What costs are due when I enroll?

The only upfront cost is a $1.00, 7-day IdentityIQ trial membership, which provides the three-bureau credit reports needed to review your credit and begin developing your personalized strategy.

No Sound Credit Solutions service fees are charged during enrollment or during the first five days after enrollment.

During this period you may:

  • Ask any remaining questions.
  • Schedule your optional phone consultation.
  • Review our recommendations.
  • Decide whether you would like to move forward before work begins.
  • Cancel your enrollment if you choose to hold off or if it is determined there are no meaningful opportunities to work on your credit report.

If you are ready to begin immediately, you may authorize us to waive the five-day waiting period so work can begin sooner.

If you decide not to continue, simply cancel your IdentityIQ membership before the 7-day trial ends to avoid future IdentityIQ membership charges.

If services continue, your IdentityIQ membership will continue as a separate monthly subscription billed directly by IdentityIQ, while Sound Credit Solutions will not charge its monthly service fee until your initial round of work has been completed.

Why is enrollment required before a phone consultation?

Federal regulations require us to complete the enrollment process before providing case-specific phone consultations. This ensures compliance while allowing us to review your credit reports before discussing your individual situation.

Before enrollment, we are happy to answer general questions through email, website chat, or Facebook Messenger.

Once enrolled, you will receive:

  • Full phone support.
  • Secure client portal messaging.
  • Ongoing communication throughout your program.

Will I be able to track my progress?

Yes. Clients receive 24/7 access to a secure client portal where they can:

  • Track monthly updates and completed work.
  • Securely message our team.
  • Upload important documents.
  • View account activity.
  • Stay informed throughout the restoration process.

You can also download the Secure Client Access app for both Apple iPhone/iPad and Android devices to securely access your portal from virtually anywhere.

Is there a contract?

No. Our services are provided on a month-to-month basis with no long-term contracts. You may cancel at any time in accordance with your service agreement.

Why is credit monitoring required?

A current three-bureau credit report is essential for reviewing your credit, preparing disputes, monitoring changes, and tracking your progress throughout the restoration process. IdentityIQ provides the credit reports needed for us to perform our services.

Will enrolling affect my credit score?

No. We use a consumer disclosure credit report for analysis, which does not impact your credit scores.

Why should I start credit restoration early?

The sooner you begin preparing for your financial goals, the better.

The clients who tend to have the most successful outcomes are those who plan ahead. If you are thinking about buying a home, financing a vehicle, or qualifying for better loan terms, it is generally best to begin the credit restoration process 12 months or more before you plan to apply whenever possible.

Waiting until just a few months before applying for financing can create unrealistic expectations. Someone with significant credit challenges who hopes to purchase a home within six months may simply not have enough time to address negative reporting, rebuild positive credit history, reduce debt, and improve other important scoring factors.

Credit rebuilding itself takes time. Positive payment history is established month after month – not overnight. In addition, many clients begin the process with elevated credit card balances. Paying those balances down throughout the program is often one of the most effective ways to improve a credit profile.

This is especially important because amounts owed, including credit utilization, account for approximately 30% of a FICO Score. High credit card utilization can significantly limit score improvement, even if negative items are corrected or removed.

We also recommend that clients discuss major credit decisions with us before applying for new credit, financing, or refinancing. This helps reduce the risk of unnecessary inquiries, new debt, or other decisions that could set progress backward.

Starting early gives you the greatest opportunity to improve your overall credit profile before you need it – not after.
